Abstract: Objective To analyze the therapeutic effect of single pigtail catheter on urinary retention caused by prostatic hyperplasia. Methods A total of 62 patients with urinary retention caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia after catheterization failure were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group. In the observation group, 30 cases were treated by cystostomy with single pigtail catheter. In the control group, 32 cases were treated by cystostomy with regular catheter. The perioperative indices (operation time, fistula healing time, extubation time, and intraoperative blood loss) and postoperative complications (hematuria, fistula infection, bladder irritation sign, and fistulostomy blockage) were observed in the two groups. Results Shorter operation time, less intraoperative blood loss, and lower incidence of postoperative complications were observed in the observation group than those in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Single pigtail catheter cystostomy has obvious advantages in the treatment of urinary retention caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia and is worthy of clinical application.
