Objective To investigate the influence of early diet after routine gastroscopy on patients’ comfort and safety. Methods A total of 900 patients with routine gastroscopy were randomized into experiment group 1, experiment group 2, and control group, with 300 cases in each group. The two experiment groups who did not cough after drinking a little warm water started diet at 60min (experiment group 1) and 90 min (experiment group 2) later, respectively, while the control group started at 2 h after inspection. Results The experiment group 1 showed a lower incidence rate of adverse reactions before eating than the control group. The experiment group 2 had little difference in the incidence rate of adverse reactions compared with the control group. There were no difference in nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, cough, aspiration, and other adverse reactions among the three groups after eating. Conclusion Setting the diet time at 60 min after routine gastroscopy can obviously both improve patients’ comfort and ensure their safety.
