Objective To evaluate the effect of internal fixation with titanium embracing fixator on multiple rib fractures.Methods Clinical data of 188 patients with multiple rib fractures treated with internal fixation with titanium embracing fixator (operation group, n=52) or conventional conservative treatment (non-operation group, n=136) between January 2011 and January 2016 were retrospectively analyzed and compared.Results The duration of pain was significantly reduced in the operation group compared with the non-operation group (P＜0.05). The incidence rates of pulmonary infection and atelectasis in the operation group was lower than those in the non-operation group (P＜0.05). The patients in the operation group recovered more quickly than the non-operation group.Conclusion Applying internal fixation with titanium embracing fixator to the treatment of multiple rib fractures can relieve pain, reduce pulmonary complications, and shorten recovery time.
