Comparison of transforaminal endoscopic spine system and open lumbar discectomy for treatment of diabetes patient lumbar disc protrusion

Abstract: Objectives To evaluated the effect of transforaminal endoscopic spine system (TESSYS) and open lumbar discectomy for treatment of diabetes patient lumbar disc protrusion. Methods 35 diabetes patient with lumbar disc protrusion were studied. TESSYS and open lumbar discectomy for treatment of diabetes patient lumbar disc protrusion. Between before the operation and after the operation, VAS、ODI for the leg pain were analysis. Results After discectomy, 35 patients leg pains were relieved significantly. Two groups of patients with leg pain visual analogue scale (VAS) before operation were 7.7±1.6,7.9±1.5. After one month 3.5±0.9,3.3±1.4 were recording, 6 months after the treatment was 2.9±0.7,2.7±1.5. There was no significant difference between the two groups(p>0.05). Two groups of patients with leg pain and Oswestry disability index (ODI) before operation were 65.3±15.1,71.5±14.6. After one month, there were 16.8±7.9,17.1±8.5, 6 months after the treatment was 15.8±5.6,15.5±6.3.There was no significant difference between the two groups(p>0.05). Conclusion The TESSYS and open lumbar discectomy in the treatment of diabetes patients with lumbar disc protrusion can achieve satisfactory effect.
