Clinical evaluation of absorbable implants in treatment of ankle and foot fractures

Abstract: Objective To evaluate the effects of absorbable implants in treatment of ankle and foot fractures. Methods A total of 76 cases with ankle and foot fracture were operated with absorbable implants from June 2010 to June 2014. There were 47 males and 29 females,with average age of 46.5 years(18~63 years).There were 25 ankle frctures, 6 calcaneal and 45 metatarsal fractures. Results All cases were followed up for 12 to 49 months(average 22.4 months). All fractures healed. The rate of excellent and good clinical results according to AOFAS system was 96%. The incidence of complications was 4%, all were foreign-body reactions. Conclusion The absorbable implant was suitable for ankle and foot fractures. Appropriate indication and operative procedure were important for the successful treatment.
