Abstract: [Abstract] Objective To evaluate the safety and effects of a novel endoscopic mask used in outpatients aged over 80 years undergoing painless gastroscopy. Methods 35 aged outpatients undergoing painless gastroscopy were managed with 5L/min oxygen providing by a novel patented endoscopic mask and intravenous anesthesia by propofol. Pulse oxygen saturation(SpO2), heart rate(HR) and mean arterial pressure(MAP) were recorded before, during and after the operation, as well as basic datas. Adverse reactions were also recorded. Results SpO2 during the procedure were significant higher than basic SpO2 (P<0.001), and no obvious desaturation was recorded. MAP decreased after anesthesia(P<0.05), but decreasing value of blood pressure was less than 20% of basic mean arterial pressure. HR remained stable and showed no significant difference. All patiengts went back to ward or home safely after a short break. Conclusions The use of the endoscopic mask in aged outpatients during painless gastroscopy is effective and safe, which could increase fraction of inspired oxygen and provide adequate oxygen supply, showing high clinical applicable value.
