Abstract: Objective To analyze the changes and trends of serum Ca²⁺ concentration in patients with different degrees of brain injury.Methods The serum Ca²⁺concentrations of 79 patients with acute traumatic brain injury and 30 healthy blood donors were determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry.Then 71 out of the 79 patients were selected to determine the serum Ca²⁺ concentration after hospital admission.Results The patients with acute traumatic brain injury showed significantly lower serum Ca²⁺ concentration than the healthy controls.The more serious the injury was,the steeper the decline was.Conclusion More severe brain injury is assoicated with lower GCS score and lower serum Ca²⁺concentration.
