Abstract: Objective Obesity is a metabolic disease and induces a variety of diseases including infertility.Sleeve gastrectomy shows encouraging Results in terms of weight loss and quality of life improvement. This study aims to determine whether sleeve gastrectomy could reverse obesity-induced fertility impairment in male SD rats. Methods After 16 weeks of a chow diet (CD) or a high-fat diet (HFD) challenge, the HFD rats were given sleeve gastrectomy or sham operation and then fed with HFD for another 8 weeks.Serum sex hormone and sperm quality in the three groups were compared. Results Sleeve gastrectomy not only decreased HFD-induced obesity, but also reversed HFD-induced increase in teratozoospermia and decreases in sperm motility and progressive motility. The expression of sex hormones increased after sleeve gastrectomy. Conclusion Sleeve gastrectomy could reverse obesity-induced fertility impairment in rats.
