Abstract: Objective To observe and compare the effect of tension-free repair in preperitoneal space and hernia ring-retaining tension-free repair on inguinal hernia. Methods Patients who underwent tension-free repair in preperitoneal space (observation group) and hernia ring-retaining tension-free repair (control group) were retrospectively analyzed for surgery conditions, postoperative pain scores, complications, and recurrence. Results No difference in operation time was found between the two groups. However, intraoperative blood loss, leaving bed time, and hospital stay of the observation group were significantly less and shorter than those of the control group (P<0.05).The pain scores at 6h,12h,and 24h of the observation group was better than those of the control group (P<0.05).The postoperative complication rate of the observation group was significantly lower than that of the control group (7.5% vs.25.0%, P<0.05).None of the patients in the two groups recurred in the one-year follow-up visit. Conclusion Tension-free repair in preperitoneal space for inguinal hernia is more safer and effective than hernia ring-retaining tension-free repair, thus worthy of clinical recommendation.
