Abstract: Objective To evaluate the effect of cold therapy on limb pain and swelling after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Methods From January 2019 to January 2020, 110 patients with postoperative pain and swelling after TKA were randomly assigned to a control group and a study group, with 55 cases in each group. The control group was given routine therapy and nursing; on the basis of the former, the study group was given intermitted treatment with iced therapeutic pad for 72 h. Improvements in limb pain and swelling conditions were observed. Results After 6 h, 24 h, 48 h, and 72 h of designed intervention, the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) scores of the study group were significantly lower than those of the control group (P<0.05); after 72 h, the circumferences above 10 cm and below 10 cm of kneecap of the two groups were significantly smaller than before, and the difference of the study group was larger than that of the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Cold therapy can effectively relieve limb pain and swelling of TKA patients. In addition, nursing interventions can further enhance the surgical effects of TKA.
